Jacarrie’s Kicks for Kids

More than a thousand pairs of shoes found new feet Saturday, Aug. 20, at the third annual “Jacarrie’s Kicks for Kids.”

Jacarrie Carr, a School of Education alum and graduate student, started the project three years ago while still an undergrad when he realized many families couldn’t afford school shoes for their children. So, he began collecting shoes that could be repaired and spruced up.

With the help of his family, the SOE’s Pi Lambda Theta, the Colleges of Nursing and Health Sciences and the UWM Libraries, Carr has been able to expand the project each year. In addition to collecting shoes at locations across campus, “Jacarrie’s Kicks for Kids,” was able to offer treats, backpacks filled with school supplies and haircuts to students heading back to school this year.

Additional sponsors for the event this year included:

The NonProfit Center, Tina-N-Tots Children’s Academy, Glendale Heights Childcare, Gee’s Clippers, The Alpha and The O Maintenance and Landscaping company, Unpredictable Characters and SkyBox Lounge.

The project was featured in a SOE story last year.
